1. Choose your decoration style

The first step is to choose the decoration style of your home. There are so many different styles, such as traditional, modern, farmhouse, minimalist, contemporary, rustic... the list goes on and on! So this will be the most difficult decision you have to make. Think about your personality and your interests.

If you tend to be simple and like the look of clean lines, you might be more minimalist. If you're a fan of bright colors and great patterns, you can get bohemian.

Your home decor should reflect your personality, so choose something that makes you happy every day when you see it. It's also your space, so do what makes you happy!

2.Create a floor plan

Your next step will be to create a floor plan for your home. Need to redecorate an entire home from scratch, or just updating a room or two? Don't get overwhelmed. Instead, sit down and create a plan for each room.

Everyone has to start somewhere, so pick a room and go from there.

Perhaps start with your bedroom, one of the most personal rooms in your home where you will spend a lot of time. Another place where you will be spending a lot of family time is the living room, so start there.

3. Choose a color palette

Since you have already decided on the style of your home, you should also create a color palette for your room. Remember that your color palette should reflect the decorating style you are aiming for. The minimalist design style often features white, black, and neutral colors, while boho features many jewel colors like ruby, sapphire, and emerald. The best way to start creating a color palette is to decide whether you want to add warm or cool tones to your space.

Warm tones are the oranges and yellows commonly seen, while cool tones tend toward blues and silvers.

Your color palette may be the same throughout the home or vary from room to room. . The easiest way to create a color palette is the 60-30-10 rule. We've already covered this in our Learning Center, but if you've never heard of the 60-30-10 rule, let us tell you a little about it. It's a classic decorating rule that will help you create the perfect
color palette for your room.

How to break it down: 60% of your room should be your predominant color, featuring things like wall paint (accent walls are the exception) and large decorative pieces like your sofa or rug. 30% of your space should be a secondary color. This color should be sufficiently different from your dominant color, but still complement each other. This color can be used for other furniture, curtains and bedding. The last 10% of your space should be your accent color.

This can be used to accent throws or cushions, framed artwork and other small trinkets in your space.

4. Take the advice of the experts

A little advice never hurt anyone. There are tons of home decor bloggers and Instagram influencer profiles out there. Plus, nothing inspires and motivates us to renew our home more than seeing what others have done.

There are tons of Instagram profiles dedicated to home decor and finding the perfect one for you can be overwhelming. Which one suits your furnishing style, which one is recommended for cheap variants etc. You will have many questions along the way, but these decoration bloggers will surely answer them!

5. Make it flow

Of course, this step is part of the choice of furnishing style. You don't want to have a country style in your living room while having a contemporary style in your kitchen, it just won't flow. Of course, if that's what you really want, who are we to stop you?!

But we suggest letting your decorating style flow throughout your home, it will make more sense!

Once you have a plan, start with the largest pieces first, this will be the small ones make decorative pieces easier to find in the end. Start with the most important pieces in each room. A sofa for your living room, a bed frame for your bedroom, the table for your dining room, then everything else follows.

6.Choose your most important pieces

First you should decorate with your large or statement pieces. Lay out the bed frame, sofa and dining table in the room before you start adding all the other decor pieces. This will make it easier for you to continue decorating so you know where to add what. If you have a special plant that you know you want to put in the corner of your living room, make sure you place it before adding the wall art so it doesn't get in the way later.

These are the items that will make the biggest statement in your room, so don't skimp on them!

You don't want to replace a cheap sofa or dining table every year, so make sure you do your research to find the best one for your home.

8.Be sure to add your own personal touch

One thing we always say at our Learning Center is to always do what you think looks best in your home. There are no real rules when it comes to home furnishing. So whether you choose a different interior style in each room or stick to one interior style to the letter is entirely up to you. Our only suggestion is to add your own personal touch to things. You don't want to copy someone's house exactly (or maybe, like I said, you want to do whatever you want!), so try to put your own personal touch on things.

This includes photos, as just mentioned, scented candles, important family heirlooms, or even your children's artwork. All of these things can take your home to the next level and make it even more personal.
